How To Setup Ubercart

Here is a handy summary checklist you can follow when setting up a typical U.S. Ubercart e-commerce website using PayPal only:

BASIC SITE CONFIRGURATION

1. Install and enable Drupal with the following modules:

  • CCK (Content)
  • FileField
  • Google Analytics
  • ImageAPI (ImageAPI, ImageAPI GD2)
  • ImageCache
  • ImageField
  • Thickbox
  • Token
  • Ubercart
  • Views

2. Enable Clean URLs. (Required for image support.)

3. Make sure to enter your own site information!

4. Uncheck the box that makes new accounts require email verification at Administer > User management > User settings. This isn't very e-commerce site friendly.

5. Setup permissions for your roles at Administer > User management > Permissions.

6. Adjust the product node settings:

  • Browse to Administer > Site building > Themes > Configure where you can uncheck the box to display post information on products.
  • Browse to Administer > Content management > Content types > Product where you can adjust the comment settings for products.

STORE CONFIGURATION

Administer > Store Administration > Configuration

1. Cart Settings > Cart Panes

  • Enable "Default cart form".
  • Enable "PayPal Express Checkout".

2. Catalog Settings > Product grid settings

  • Enable "Display products in the catalog in a grid."

3. Checkout Settings

  • Run through the checkout process and adjust as needed.
  • Address fields - phone number should be required, remove "province", change "postal code" to "zip code"

4. Country Settings

  • Disable Canada

5. Reset the starting order number for your store.

6. Payment Settings

  • Adjust payment methods to meet your needs.

7. Product Settings

  • Product fields - check cost to view costs in admin mode

8. Report Settings

  • Adjust as needed.

9. Shipping quote settings

  • For FREE Shipping only sites, uncheck "Prevent the customer from completing an order if a shipping quote is not selected."
  • Create FREE Shipping as a flat rate shipping method if the above is true.

10. Store Settings

  • Setup for your store's information and remove footer message.

11. Tax rates and settings

  • Set up state sales tax based on ship-to address.
